The Territorial Support Group (TSG) is a London-wide police unit that supports borough teams, specialist crime teams, the anti-terrorist branch and firearms officers. Its role is to respond to critical and major incidents beyond local control, tackle serious crime issues and act as a strategic reserve for public disorder and CBRN (chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear) incidents.
The TSG also leads the Metropolitan Police Service in the deployment of Taser as a use of force option by unarmed officers. Operational assignments range from public order deployments, drugs raids and rapid entry arrests to community engagement.
TSG officers most often come into contact with our community through Stop and Search on our streets – they do high levels of Stop and Search relative to other officers. They usually patrol in vans with half a dozen or so officers aboard.
If you want to find out what they do, and why, or put your questions/comments to them in a more relaxed atmosphere than a street encounter, then this is your chance.
